Matthew Naven is an assistant professor in the department of economics at Washington and Lee University. His primary research interests are public economics, labor economics, and the economics of education. His research focuses on the effects of institutions, public policies, and external forces on student outcomes. Naven is particularly interested in barriers low-income students face in education, increasing college access for low-income students, and education as a pathway out of poverty. He received his PhD in economics from the University of California, Davis.
