Francisco (Paco) Martorell is co-director of the California Education Lab and an associate professor in the School of Education at the University of California, Davis. His research focuses on developmental education in colleges, the effects of grade retention, the returns to for-profit colleges, the impacts of school facility investments, and community college tuition subsidies. Prior to joining the UC Davis faculty, he was an economist at the RAND Corporation and a professor at the Pardee RAND Graduate School. He received a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
