Christine E. Sleeter
Christine E. Sleeter is a professor emerita in the College of Education at California State University Monterey Bay (CSU–MB). Dr. Sleeter is also a fellow of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and a Member of the National Academy of Education (NAE). She previously served as vice president of Division K (Teaching and Teacher Education) at AERA and as president of the National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME). As an education expert and education activist-reformer, Dr. Sleeter has helped hundreds of teachers become better teachers of the schools' culturally diverse students. Her work primarily focuses on multicultural education, preparation of teachers for culturally diverse schools, and anti-racism. She has been honored for her work as the recipient of the American Educational Research Association Social Justice Award, the Division K Teaching and Teacher Education Legacy Award, the CSU Monterey Bay President's Medal, the Chapman University Paulo Freire Education Project Social Justice Award, the American Educational Research Association Special Interest Group Multicultural and Multiethnic Education Lifetime Achievement Award, and the National Association for Multicultural Education Exceptional Service Award. She is the author of more than 24 books and 150 articles on education. Dr. Sleeter holds a PhD in curriculum and instruction from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and an MA in curriculum and instruction from Seattle University along with BAs in secondary education from Central Washington University and in political science from Willamette University.
