Emilio J. Castilla is the NTU Professor of Management and a professor of work and organization studies at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He is also the co-director of the Institute for Work and Employment Research at MIT. Before joining MIT Sloan in 2005, he was a faculty member in the Management Department at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on the sociological aspects of work and employment, particularly how social and organizational processes influence recruitment, hiring, development, and job mobility within and across organizations. Castilla earned a BA in economics from the University of Barcelona, a PGDip in business analysis from Lancaster University Management School, and a PhD in sociology from Stanford University.
