Eric Rofes was an assistant professor of education in the School of Education at Humboldt State University and a longtime activist, educator, and author. He founded the Boston Lesbian and Gay Political Alliance and served as executive director of the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Community Services Center and the Shanti Project. He was a board member of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and the National Lesbian and Gay Health Association. A former member of the Gay Community News collective, he published books, academic papers, and journal articles on school reform, race and ethnicity in education, and gay men's cultures. In recognition of his contributions to LGBTQ+ advocacy, he was posthumously honored on the National LGBTQ Wall of Honor at the Stonewall Inn. Rofes earned both his MA in education and a PhD in social and cultural studies from the University of California, Berkeley.
