Gail E. Uellendahl
Gail E. Uellendahl is emeritus professor of counselor education with the Counselor Education Program of the Counseling and Guidance Department in the Graduate School of Eduction at California Lutheran University (CLU). Dr. Uellendahl was formerly a professor of education in the CLU Graduate School of Education and the chair of the Counseling and Guidance Department. She came to CLU with more than 16 years of experience designing and implementing college counseling programs at Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY). Her education career began at Nassau Community College (NCC) as a first-generation college student, earning an AA degree in child care. At CLU, Dr. Uellendahl taught a variety of courses focused on the theory and practice of counseling. She regularly participated in regional, state, and national conferences, in the Student Affairs and K–12 School Counseling fields. She has made presentations about assessment and school counseling, critical incident stress management in K–12 settings, culturally proficient higher education teams, the use of student outcomes data for designing school counseling programs, and supporting first-generation students. Her research focuses on site supervision for counseling interns and the experiences of successful first-generation graduate students. She has a long standing interest in serving first-generation and other underrepresented populations and has a long history of advocacy for students with disabilities and has received numerous awards for her work in this area, such as the 2013 CLU President's Award for Teaching Excellence. Dr. Uellendahl holds a PhD in counseling psychology from New York University (NYU), an MS in special education from Hofstra University, and a BA in education from Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY). She us also a practicing licensed psychologist in New York and California.
