Helen F. Ladd is the Susan B. King Distinguished Professor Emerita of Public Policy in the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University, which she is also an affiliate of the Duke Center for Child and Family Policy. She is a member of the North Carolina Governor's Commission on Access to a Sound, Basic Education and a longtime elected member of the the National Academy of Education. Her education research focuses on school finance and accountability, teacher labor markets, school choice, and early childhood programs. With colleagues at Duke and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she uses longitudinal administrative data from North Carolina to study school segregation, teacher labor markets, teacher quality, charter schools, and early childhood programs. Her education career has been distinguished by receiving the 2015 Outstanding Service Award from the Association for Education Finance and Policy (AEFP) and the 2012 Outstanding University Scholar/Teacher of the Year Award from Duke. Ladd received her PhD in economics from Harvard University.
