J. Luke Wood is president of California State University, Sacramento. Prior to his appointment, he served as chief diversity officer and as vice president and cabinet member for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity at San Diego State University (SDSU). Wood was the first Black faculty member to be named Distinguished Professor (Education) of African American decent at SDSU while serving as professor in the Department of Administration, Rehabilitation and Postsecondary Education. He has also served as codirector of the Community College Equity Assessment Lab; as director of the Joint PhD Program in Education between SDSU and Claremont Graduate University; as director of the EdD Program in Community College Leadership at SDSU; as director of the Executive EdD Program at Lincoln Memorial University; and as coordinator of the Arizona Education Policy Fellowship Program. Wood is a social scientist, researcher, author, consultant, and equity-driven leader focused on reducing equity gaps between students of color and their peers. He has authored over 180 publications, including 80 peer-reviewed journal articles and 16 books. Wood received his PhD in educational leadership and policy studies (higher education) from Arizona State University.
