James S. Kim is professor of education in the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He also leads the Harvard READS (Research Enhances Adaptations Designed for Scale in Literacy) Lab. He has been an assistant professor of education in the Department of Education at the University of California, Irvine, and a research associate with the Civil Rights Project at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Kim works at the intersection of literacy intervention, experimental design, and systems transformation. His research focuses on the development of novel, evidence-based programs that build students’ domain and vocabulary knowledge, argumentative writing ability, and reading comprehension outcomes. He develops long-term partnerships with U.S. school districts to help educators build and maintain healthy literacy ecosystems to foster equitable outcomes for all learners. Kim received his MEd in social foundations of education from the University of Virginia and his EdD in administration, planning, and social policy from Harvard University.
