Jan McCarthy is director of the Center for Child and Family Studies at the University of South Florida and professor emerita of elementary education in the Department of Elementary Education at Indiana State University (ISU). She is considered the founder of early childhood education and established the program in ISU’s Bayh College of Education, where she was recognized with the ISU Faculty and Staff Philanthropy Award. McCarthy served as the chair of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and was president of the the Council for Professional Development, the National Association for Education of Young Children, and the U.S. National Committee of the World Organization for Early Childhood Education.
