John P. Papay is an associate professor of education and economics at Brown University as well as a faculty associate with the Population Studies and Training Center; he is also a faculty affiliate with the Taubman Center for American Politics and Policy at Brown and the Center for Education Policy Research (where he was also a doctoral fellow) at Harvard University. He previously served as interim chair for the Department of Education and interim director for the Annenberg Institute at Brown and was a research affiliate with The Project on the Next Generation of Teachers. His research focuses on teacher policy, the economics of education, and teacher labor markets. He has published on teacher value-added models, teacher evaluation, high-stakes testing, teacher compensation, and program evaluation methodology. He has also taught high school history. Papay received his EdD in quantitative policy analysis of education (economics) from Harvard University.
