John R. Slate

John R. Slate is professor of leadership and counseling in the Department of Educational Leadership at Sam Houston State University. His research focuses on educational equity, school reform, and the use of large-scale educational databases to inform policy and practice. He previously served as chair of the Department of Educational Leadership at Texas A&M University–Kingsville; he has held faculty positions at the University of Texas at El Paso, Valdosta State University, and Arkansas State University. His professional experience also includes serving as manager of research and evaluation at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. He has authored or coauthored over 500 peer-reviewed journal articles and presented extensively at national and international conferences. His work has been recognized with multiple research awards, including the Outstanding Research Award from Sam Houston State University’s College of Education. Slate received his PhD in psychology from the University of Tennessee.
