Jordan A. Carlson is a research associate professor of pediatrics in the department if pediatrics at the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine and director of Community-Engaged Health Research in the Children’s Mercy Research Institute (CMRI) at Children’s Mercy Kansas City. His background is in physical activity behavior change science, epidemiology, and measurement; his work aims to better understand the influences and health impacts of physical activity and sedentary behavior in both youth and adults. He is particularly interested in improving the uptake of environment and policy approaches for supporting physical activity in youth and using technology and multi-source data to design and inform school- and community-based physical activity programs and policies. Dr. Carlson holds a PhD in public health jointly from the University of California, San Diego and San Diego State University, an MA in experimental psychology from San Diego State University, and a BA in psychology from the University of Kansas. He also completed a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in cardiovascular decease epidemiology and prevention.
