Joscha Legewie
Joscha Legewie is professor of sociology in the Department of Sociology at Harvard University. Dr. Legewie is also director of Undergraduate Studied and is affiliated with the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies, the Harvard Data Science Initiative, the Institute for Quantitative Social Science, and the Multidisciplinary Program in Inequality and Social Policy. He was previously assistant professor of sociology and education at New York University (NYU) and a postdoctoral fellow at the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung (WZB Berlin Social Science Center). His research uses quantitative methods to study urban inequality in the contemporary United States. It focuses on how inequality is created and sustained across institutions such as schools, neighborhoods and policing. Current projects include work on the social consequences and costs of policing for the education of minority youth, and the role of neighborhood boundaries for spatial dimensions of social inequality. Dr. Legewie holds a PhD and an MA in sociology jointly from Columbia University along with a BA in social science from Humboldt Universität zu Berlin (HU Berlin)
