M. Kathleen Thomas is the department head of finance at Mississippi State University (MSU) and professor of education at the MSU College of Education. She specializes in public finance and education policy. Prior to joining the faculty at MSU, Dr. Thomas was a researcher with the Texas Schools Project at The University of Texas at Dallas. Her research has been published widely in numerous peer reviewed journals including Economics Letters, Social Choice and Welfare, Southern Economic Journal, Journal of Cultural Economics, and Economics of Education Review. Dr. Thomas holds a PhD in economics Georgia State University, an MA in economics from the University of Alabama, and a BS in economics from Birmingham–Southern College.
