Matthew G. Springer
Matthew G. Springer is an adjunct professor with the School of Data Science and Society at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill. He also serves as a managing partner at Basis Policy Research and is a member of the board of directors for the Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness. Springer previously held the UNC Robena and Walter E. Hussman Jr. Distinguished Professorship; he has also been a public policy and education professor with Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. Springer runs large-scale research, evaluation, and technical assistance projects and is a leader in studying educational innovations and policy advancements to improve educational opportunities. His current work involves developing a cross-sector data service that integrates large longitudinal administrative data systems, assisting agencies, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers in making evidence-based decisions to improve operational effectiveness and program delivery. His contributions to the field are well recognized, with regular publications in education and policy journals; he also serves on the editorial boards of the Education Researcher and the American Educational Research Journal. He is regularly featured on such news outlets as ABC World News Tonight, National Public Radio, The New York Times, Time Magazine, and The Wall Street Journal. Springer received his PhD in education finance and policy from Vanderbilt University.
