Megan Hopkins

Megan Hopkins is a professor and chair in the Department of Education Studies at the University of California, San Diego. She also serves as co-advisor to the English Learner Collaborative of the Council of Chief State School Officers. She previously held faculty positions at Pennsylvania State University, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Northwestern University. Her research focuses on policy and leadership in K–12 education, particularly the education of multilingual learners. She has conducted applied research on the implementation of bilingual education policies, the preparation of teachers of multilingual learners, and how formal policies, organizational structures, school norms, and individual beliefs shape teacher learning. Her work has been widely published in academic journals, books, and policy reports. Hopkins earned her MEd in international education policy from Harvard University and a PhD in education with a specialization in urban schooling and a cognate in public policy from the University of California, Los Angeles.
