Michael Strong is a visiting research scientist and adjunct professor at the College of Education. Dr. Strong was formerly a senior researcher with the Center for Research in the Interest of Underserved Students (CERIUS) at the University of California, Berkeley; director or research for both the New Teacher Center at the University of California, Santa Cruz and the Center on Deafness at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF); and research specialist at the Defense Language Institute (DLI) at the United States Department of Defense (DoD). He is an educational researcher with interests in language acquisition, bilingual education, education of deaf students, teacher induction and mentoring, and teacher evaluation. Most recently his research has focused on teacher evaluation and the development of an observation system called RATE, that is predictive of student learning.  He is also co-principal investigator on the Teacher Incentive Allotment research study, whereby Texas teachers receive salary bonuses for high quality work. Dr. Strong holds a PhD in language and reading development from UC Berkeley along with an MA in applied linguistics from Birkbeck College and a BSc in sociology jointly from the University of London.
