Paul von Hippel is an associate professor of public affairs at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. Von Hippel studies evidence-based policy, educational inequality, and the relationship between schooling, health, and obesity. He is an expert on research design and missing data. He is a three-time winner of best article awards from the education and methodology sections of the American Sociological Association. Before his academic career, von Hippel was a data scientist who developed fraud-detection scores for banks, including JPMorgan Chase and the Bank of America. He received his PhDs from Stanford University and Ohio State University.
