Paul von Hippel is an associate professor of public affairs and associate dean for research at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. Von Hippel studies evidence-based policy, educational inequality, and the relationship between schooling, health, and obesity. He is an expert on research design and missing data. He is a three-time winner of best article awards from the education and methodology sections of the American Sociological Association. Before his academic career, von Hippel was a data scientist who developed fraud-detection scores for banks, including JPMorgan Chase and the Bank of America. He received his received his MAS in statistics and a PhD in sociology from Ohio State University.
