Scott L. Thomas

Scott L. Thomas is the 12th President of Sterling College in Craftsbury Common, Vermont, a position he has held since July 1, 2023.  Prior to this role, he served as the John P. ‘Jack’ Ellbogen Dean of the College of Education at the University of Wyoming.  Dr. Thomas has over 25 years of teaching and leadership experience in both private and public institutions. He has also held positions as Dean of the College of Education and Social Services at the University of Vermont and Dean of the School of Educational Studies at Claremont Graduate University.  His research interests include higher education policy, science and technology, and the stratification of postsecondary opportunity. Dr. Thomas earned his PhD in Educational Policy, Leadership, and Research Methods from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
