Shinyi Wu is an associate professor of social work at the University of Southern California (USC) with a secondary appointment in industrial and systems engineering at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. She is also a senior scientist at the USC Edward R. Roybal Institute on Aging. Wu applies an engineering approach to social work research, focusing on health systems, behavioral and mental health, aging, and policy analysis. She has led major studies on technology-enabled health care solutions, including the Diabetes-Depression Care-Management Adoption Trial, which evaluated an automated system for improving depression care among low-income diabetes patients. Her current research focuses on interventions to reduce health care disparities, including mobile health technology for stroke care management and a Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute study testing a promotora (community health worker) model for patients with chronic illnesses and depression. Wu received her PhD in industrial engineering with a specialization in health systems from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
