Thea Sweo Alvarado is interim assistant superintendent and vice president of instruction at College of the Canyons. She was previously dean of instruction at Pasadena City College, where she also served as division chair, faculty accreditation coordinator, student learning outcomes coordinator, and dean of social sciences and distance education. Earlier in her career, she was an adjunct associate professor of sociology at San Joaquin Delta College and held faculty positions at multiple institutions, including Solano Community College, Los Angeles Mission College, College of the Canyons, and California State University, Northridge. She was also a research assistant for Policy Analysis for California Education (PACE) at the University of California, Berkeley. Alvarado earned a BA in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley, an MA in social science with a concentration in demographic and social analysis from the University of California, Irvine, and an EdD from the University of California, Davis.
