Umut Özek
Umut Özek is a senior economist at the RAND Corporation. He was previously a principal economist at the American Institutes for Research (AIR), a senior researcher with the National Center for Analysis of Longitudinal Data in Education Research (CALDER), and a research associate with the Education Policy Center at The Urban Institute. He is also an adjunct professor at American University. Dr. Özek focuses on topics in economics of education and his research interests include immigrant students and English learners (ELs), implementation and consequences of educational accountability, K–12 remediation policies and their effects, and the design and effects of school choice programs. His work has been widely published in economics journals such as the Review of Economic Studies, American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Public Economics, American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, Education Finance and Policy, and Economics of Education Review among others. Dr. Özek holds a PhD in economics from the University of Florida, an MA in economics from the University of Denver, and a BS in electrical and electronics engineering from Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi (Middle East Technical University).
