William G. Tierney
William G. Tierney is University Professor Emeritus and founding director of the Pullias Center for Higher Education in the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California (USC). Tierney is a past president of the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) and the American Educational Research Association (AERA). He was awarded the Howard R. Bowen Distinguished Career Award from ASHE and the Distinguished Research Award from Division J of AERA. He also serves on the International Advisory Board of King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia and is an Interdisciplinary Research Fellow at the University of Hong Kong. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Education. Tierney is an expert on higher education policy analysis, governance, and administration; his research interests include faculty productivity, decision making, organizational re-engineering, and issues of equity. He is committed to informing policies and practices that promote educational equity and postsecondary effectiveness. Tierney received his MEd in education from Harvard University and his PhD in administration and policy analysis from Stanford University.
