Andrew D. Plunk
Andrew D. Plunk is an associate professor of pediatrics at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS). Dr. Plunk is also director of outreach and partnership at EVMS. He was formerly a postdoctoral research fellow in psychiatric epidemiology with the Institute of Public Health (IPH) at Washington State University in St. Louis and a coordinator at the Center for Clinical Research Ethics (CCRE) with the Institute for Clinical and Translational Sciences (CTS) at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Dr. Plunk is an ethicist and social epidemiologist who studies how policy affects marginalized or otherwise vulnerable populations. His work involves a unique program of research that justifies and evaluates policy from both ethical and epidemiological perspectives. Within this context, he focuses on assessing and developing policy as a tool for promoting health, recognizing that many communities typically have very little control over what happens to to them. His recent research evaluates policy within an implementation science framework, emphasizing the use of community-based participatory approaches to facilitate policy adaptation in response to community feedback. Dr. Plunk holds a PhD in health care ethics from Saint Louis University along with an MPH in health policy and a BA in philosophy and religious studies jointly from Missouri State University.
