Andrew D. Plunk
Andrew D. Plunk is an associate professor of pediatrics as well as director of outreach and partnership at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He was a postdoctoral research fellow in psychiatric epidemiology with the Institute of Public Health at Washington State University in St. Louis and a coordinator at the Center for Clinical Research Ethics with the Institute for Clinical and Translational Sciences at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Plunk is an ethicist and social epidemiologist who studies how policy affects marginalized or otherwise vulnerable populations. His work involves a program of research that justifies and evaluates policy from both ethical and epidemiological perspectives. Within this context, he focuses on assessing and developing policy as a tool for promoting health, recognizing that many communities typically have very little control over what happens to to them. His recent research evaluates policy within an implementation science framework, emphasizing the use of community-based participatory approaches to facilitate policy adaptation in response to community feedback. Plunk received his MPH in health policy from Missouri State University and his PhD in health care ethics from Saint Louis University.
