Claire D. Brindis is a distinguished emerita professor of pediatrics and health policy (on recall) at the University of California, San Francisco, with joint appointments in the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences. She is the emerita director of the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies and a founding director of the Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health. She co-directs the Adolescent and Young Adult Health National Resource Center and is a core faculty member of the ARCHES Program, leading its evaluation efforts. Brindis also serves as a senior advisor to the UC Center on Climate, Health, and Equity. An elected member of the National Academy of Medicine, she has served as vice-chair of its council and currently chairs the Standing Committee on Reproductive Health, Equity, and Society for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. A bilingual, bicultural researcher, her work focuses on program evaluation and the translation of research into policy at local, state, and national levels, with an emphasis on adolescent and child health policy, women’s health, and reproductive health services. She has received numerous awards for her contributions to public health, including the Martha May Eliot Award in Maternal and Child Health from the American Public Health Association. Brindis earned her MPH from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a DrPH in public health and behavioral sciences from the University of California, Berkeley.
