Dominic J. Brewer

Dominic J. Brewer is a professor of education, economics, and policy in the Department of Applied Statistics, Social Science, and Humanities and dean emeritus of the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at New York University, where he holds an appointment in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. Brewer was previously a professor of urban leadership in the Educational Leadership program in the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California. He spent over a decade with the RAND Corporation and is also a former co-director of Policy Analysis for California Education (PACE). Brewer is a labor economist specializing in the economics of education and education policy. His work has included empirical analyses of the effects of teachers on student achievement and class size. Most recently, he was a co-editor of the journal Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis as well as the Encyclopedia of Education Economics and Finance. He served as president of the Association for Education Finance and Policy and is a fellow of the American Educational Research Association. Brewer received his PhD in labor economics from Cornell University.
