Beyond Accountability

How SEL Supports Student Success
flyer

Much has been written about the challenges of measuring social-emotional outcomes, and yet most people have an intuitive understanding that social emotional skills are essential for success in education, careers and life overall.

Being able to manage your emotions and behavior, interact effectively with other people, and persevere through challenges, for example, are decidedly common skills we draw on in multiple settings. Given this reality, it’s important to understand the “how” of SEL, including conditions for successful implementation, the importance of continuous quality improvement, and the opportunity to leverage after school and summer resources for full day, full year learning.

This seminar will explore social-emotional learning in both the school-day and expanded learning settings and include real-world examples from the Sacramento City Unified School District.

Speakers:

  • Deborah Moroney, Principal Researcher, American Institutes for Research
  • Mai Xi Lee, Director of Social-Emotional Learning, Sacramento City Unified School District
  • Katie Brackenridge, Vice President of Programs, Partnership for Children & Youth

Moderated by David N. Plank, Executive Director, PACE

This special seminar is co-hosted by PACE and the Partnership for Children and Youth.
