PACE Webinar: Toward the Development of Equity Indicators for California
Improving education equity is one of the most important goals of California's education system, and undergirds the state's policy structures, including how money is allocated to districts and how districts and schools are held accountable for student outcomes. However, the state's current measurement approach, like most across the county, is insufficient for understanding the extent to which our education systems are providing equitable opportunities for California's students. This webinar presents the findings from a landmark report by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, which provides the architecture for a system to help policy makers address questions of educational equity. Sean Reardon, Christopher Edley, Jr., and Michal Kurlaender discuss how these indicators could be operationalized for California, providing a proof-of-concept for how California could better measure and report a) contextual influences on educational outcomes, b) disparities in student outcomes, and c) disparities in access to opportunities.
